weekly updates archive

hey hey

June 13, 2012

Hey everyone, new visitors and fans, old timey visitors and fans, how’s it going? We’ve slacked off on the old Updates of Updates posts here, but we’ve still been adding away. For the most part it’s been press and such about the Once musical, all here on this page. There’s plenty to look through there and from this point we won’t be updating there anymore. Congratulations to all involved on 8 Tony Awards this past weekend, amazing! We were lucky enough to see the show back in December at the New York Theater Workshop. It definitely deserves all the accolades.

Now that things are picking up with Glen and Rhythm and Repose we’ve been keeping a Press page over here including interviews, reviews, sessions, tv, and so on… The gig pages are here and we’ll add to those in our usual fashion as best as we can keep up with the madness.

We do realize that some of the video heavy pages take a bit to load, we’re coming up with alternatives to our layout, but it’s best just to wait until the whole page loads before clicking around. Patience! : )

The best way to follow along is on Twitter & Facebook. Also keep an eye on the right sidebar on the homepage for bits you may have missed elsewhere.

Thank ya! Nice to see you here!

2 March Update

March 2, 2012

It’s been a few months since a blog post, hello! Good afternoon, evening, morning wherever you are. We changed up the homepage photos, so if you never look at the homepage, have a peek…

For the most part we’ve been adding Glen solo dates to his 2012 gigs page here. So far mostly support for Eddie Vedder this spring with a few solo shows tossed in, then a couple of European summer festivals including Electric Picnic in September.

– In addition, the Hunger Games Soundtrack is due out on March 20. Then Glen’s long awaited as yet untitled solo record is due out in June! We’ve created a press page for press & media related to Glen’s 2011 & 2012 solo tours/record.

– The other buzz is around the Broadway premiere of the Once musical. We’ve a page dedicated to that here with recent news and information.

– We just added an interview Glen did with Fretboard Journal in Spring 2010. 13 pages of PDFs including some wonderful photos. Thanks to Fleur for passing it along!

– A VEVO channel for The Frames popped up in February on YouTube, so perhaps head over there and subscribe. Currently it’s only featuring the Australian gig from 2007 that is also available on Hulu and here on OITS.

– We have a complete set of videos (minus unreleased songs) for Glen’s 2011 summer gig in Reykavic Iceland.

– A whole bunch of new videos from the Frames’ 2010 anniversary show in DC at the 9:30 Club recently appeared on YT, so we’ve added those.

– A page for this past Christmas Eve busk that seemed to happen all over Dublin!

– An interview Glen did with the Irish Times in December. (2 jpegs: one & two)

– Glen sings on some songs on Mark Geary’s latest album songs about love, songs about leaving.

– Graham has been playing live with Bronagh Gallagher and will be featured on her upcoming album this spring. Hear the single “Fool” here at bronaghgallagher.com.

– AND Graham recently chatted with Brian Downey, drummer of Thin Lizzy, for Zildjian.

– Glen & Colm are featured on Michael Brunnock’s new album The Orchard due out this Spring. You can watch the video for the title track here.

– Colm is one of the many players on Peter Courtney’s charity single White Roses. Others include Mundy, Cathy Davey, Mick and Johnny Cronin, The Aftermath, Julie Feeney, Vyvienne Long, Duncan Patterson and Una Monaghan. White Roses is a tribute to Peter’s mother who passed last year. All proceeds go to the Irish Hospice Foundation and the Regional Hospices nationwide. You can get the single for 99 cents at iTunes here.

We think that’s about it, or at least what we’ve made note of. If any of the above is inaccurate please let us know. Obviously, more to come soon! Have a great weekend….

6 December Update

December 6, 2011

It was one year ago today that we had the idea to make this website. A whole year! The next day we had the name, and the day after that we started building it. The next 2 weeks that followed were full of many, many hours of online time at night, after the kids were in bed and in the in-between times of getting ready for the holidays. It was all totally worth it when we launched the site on Dec. 21 and got so much lovely and wonderful feedback.

Thanks to OITS, we’ve made new friends & acquaintances all over the world. Thanks to the Frames community for all your contributions and spending time on the site and thanks to the band for being awesome about it. It’s lead to many unexpected surprises, friendships and learning opportunities. Yeah, yeah it’s just a website, but it’s all true!

It’s worth noting that today the Once musical in NYC is having its Opening Night. We’re heading there together this weekend to see it ourselves and are quite excited as we’ve heard great things.

On to the updates!
(By the way- we just upgraded one of our video plugins and they are still working out some bugs, so if you see anything wacky going on with videos, please let us know. )

As most of you know we hosted an auction of stellar Frames related items to raise money for the Irish Fragile X Society. The final bid total was just over $1600! Thanks so much to all the amazing fans who tried their luck. Truly a grand effort and awesome help for the IFXS!

There’s been a little slew of gigs in the past 10 days or so, including the unbelievable Mic Tribute gig on the 29th. The list of songs and performers is mind-boggling. Check it out if you haven’t yet! Loads of gorgeous videos (enough that you may have to be extra patient while the page loads), you can just see the love there that night.

+ 26.11 – Heyday Festival – a celebration of Mic in his home town
+ 1.12 – Other Voices 10th Anniversary in Dingle. There’s a lovely preview of the weekend featuring the town and a little history of the program. What a beautiful place. Then we get a preview (in the form of God Bless Mom) of what’s to be released in 2012.
+ 2.12 – Glen joins Ronan Wilmot to benefit the New Theatre in Dublin

+ Glen took NPR’s World Cafe on a little tour of Dublin last month. Video and audio here.
+ We added a, um, unique fan story to Your Stories!
+ We’ve been keeping up with all the news and reviews of both the Once musical & the Swell Season movie when they pop up.
+ Oh and we’ve added one 2012 gig for Glen at the Rolling Stones ‘Hot Rocks’ Tribute at Carnegie Hall in NYC. (Reminds us we need to make a Glen 2012 section!)

Think that’s about it for now. You can keep up with us over at Twitter & Facebook as well where we blab more often. Enjoy the season!

2 November Update

November 2, 2011

Hey all, how’s it going? We’ve rounded up a few items for the site in the past month. Looking forward to hearing all about the big 29 November gig with The Frames, The Mary Janes & Friends at Vicar Street to celebrate and honor Mic Christopher. All proceeds from the gig will go to benefit the Irish Fragile X Society. See the most recent Frames newsletter for more information!

We’ve continued to add stuff to all of Glen’s recent gig pages, so have a sort through his dates page to find some goodies. Includes new pages for the Other Voices NYC gigs last week. Night 1 & Night 2.

Last month, Graham & Johnny performed with Whole Lotta Zep at the Sugar Club for the Led Zeppelin IV Live gig celebrating the album’s 40th (!) Anniversary. Yes, multiple drummers together, love it! Check out some awesome video and pics here.

Graham is also doing some gigs with Bronagh Gallagher this week.
2 Nov – Sandinos in Derry
3 Nov – Oh Yeah in Belfast
4 Nov – Whelan’s in Dublin

Rob has been touring in Europe with Marketa on her solo outing supporting her new album Anar. They are going to be in Ireland the next few days!

Once: A New Musical is in rehearsals right now and starts in about 2 weeks in NYC. If you’re interested in keeping up with that, The New York Theatre Workshop tweets, and Steve Kazee, who is playing Glen’s roll, tweets as well.

We continue to add press about The Swell Season movie here. We’ve recently added some interviews and reviews focusing on the techie movie bits. The distributor has a list of cities where the film will be playing.

Lastly, we’ve popped up a few gorgeous posters from Prague to Posters, added a What Happens When..video as well as more photos to The Frames’ gig from June at DeBarra’s Folk Club and posted a few photos by Zoran Orlic to Glen’s PJ20 Weekend page from early in September.

Thanks everyone, see ya next time…..

28 September 2011 Update

September 28, 2011

Wow it’s been awhile since we’ve done a blog update! For the most part we’ve been keeping up with Glen’s US gigs and now European tour. All reports of Glen’s shows have been stellar and well received by new fans, which is always lovely to hear! We have setlists, reviews, photos….the usual for most of the gigs. If you’re wondering why we’re missing videos of new songs, we’re respecting Glen’s wishes of not sharing them online. We feel it’s best to leave those there in the moment and space where they happen for now. Soon enough everyone will be able to enjoy them, so we’ll hold on until then.

Simply click through to Glen’s Gig listings and any of the recently passed dates to see lots of cool stuff from the shows.

In addition to that, just a few adds:
+ link to a very cool video of 5 songs by The Frames on German TV from 2005
+ we added a video of Graham playing with Snow Patrol on Later with Jools Holland. Also, Graham will be playing at the Led Zeppelin IV 40th Anniversary Tribute this weekend (1 Oct) at the Sugar Club in Dublin. Johnny Boyle will be there too!
+ Glen performed some songs with Damien Dempsey at Vicar Street a few weeks ago
+ we’re still keeping track of news and release information about the Swell Season Movie as well as the Once musical here

If you are going to any of the upcoming gigs with Glen & Mark Geary, we love fan reviews, setlists, etc…please send along! Thanks, see you soon!
