26 July 2011 // Cafe Rosenberg // Reykjavík, Iceland

Preview: The Reykjavík Grapevine

Support: Ylja

Setlist: You Will Become, Lay Me Down, Leave, Back Broke, What Happens When the Heart Just Stops – Bad Bone, Evangeline, Astral Weeks (Van Morrison), Lucia, Falling Slowly, Song of Good Hope

Notes from a fan: He was in a very good mood, played for over 2 hours and just didn’t wanna stop. He brought 2 Icelandic musicians on stage to let them play their songs: Svavar Knútur played his song ‘Clementine’ on Glen’s guitar. A girl he met at Bræðslan sang her song called ‘Bad Woman’, I think her name was Adrianna (or similar). Glen didn’t either remember her name but asked her to step forward and play her song. She was unprepared but did a good job singing her song and playing on Glen’s guitar.  After the song he joked about that this wasn’t the song she sang for him at ‘Bræðslan’. He invited drummer Thorvaldur Thor Thorvaldsson (aka Doddi) to play the snare drum on 2 songs (Doddi played the drums on Sigur Rós’ Jonsi’s solo tour last year). He invited Kristjana Stefansdottir to sing ‘Falling Slowly’ with him. He met all these people at the small festival in Bræðslan the previous weekend.

He talked a lot about elves but he apparently went on a trip to a ‘elvish castle’ in the rocks close to where the festival was at. The small town is called ‘Borgarfjordur’ and he often tried to pronounce it but he never got it right until he got some help from the audience much to their joy.

He’s such a cool/powerful/genuine/humble guy that totally owned the place…only ~120 people in this small café. When Ylja was playing the warm up set, Glen was hanging around the entrance of the club/café and was chatting to people in a very good mood. When it was time for his show he walked through the club, probably because there was no backstage. He even joked about it before his encore when he put his guitar down and everyone applauded him, he just picked it up again and said that he had nowhere to go after the set.
