Video for first single “Philander”

April 5, 2012

Glen’s pal Conor Masterson made this video for the first single from the upcoming record “Rhythm and Repose”. It’s called “Philander” and we are kind of blown away by both the song and video. Fantastic. See the story behind the video here at NPR’s All Songs Considered.

Lots of Glen news!

April 4, 2012

A new website (more like a splash page for now) has been revealed at www.songofgoodhope.com announcing Glen’s first solo record titled Rhythm and Repose. Rhythm and Repose will be released on Anti- on June 19th, but you can pre-order it now. Entertainment.ie reports on the record here (which will come out on Plateau Records in Ireland on June 15).

The album was recorded and produced by Patrick Dillett and Thomas Bartlett, and features musicians Brad Albetta, Ray Rizzo, Nico Muhly and memebers of Bruce Springsteen’s horn section. Marketa is on the record as well! Here is the tracklist: 1. You Will Become, 2. Maybe Not Tonight, 3. Talking with The Wolves, 4. High Hope, 5. Bird of Sorrow, 6. The Storm, It’s Coming, 7. Love Don’t Leave Me Waiting, 8. What Are We Gonna Do, 9. Races, 10. Philander, 11. Song of Good Hope

In addition, 3 US solo gigs have been announced for the end of June in LA, Chicago & NY. Tickets for LA & NY go on sale to the general public tomorrow, April 5th. More details can be found at Glen’s site.

2 March Update

March 2, 2012

It’s been a few months since a blog post, hello! Good afternoon, evening, morning wherever you are. We changed up the homepage photos, so if you never look at the homepage, have a peek…

For the most part we’ve been adding Glen solo dates to his 2012 gigs page here. So far mostly support for Eddie Vedder this spring with a few solo shows tossed in, then a couple of European summer festivals including Electric Picnic in September.

– In addition, the Hunger Games Soundtrack is due out on March 20. Then Glen’s long awaited as yet untitled solo record is due out in June! We’ve created a press page for press & media related to Glen’s 2011 & 2012 solo tours/record.

– The other buzz is around the Broadway premiere of the Once musical. We’ve a page dedicated to that here with recent news and information.

– We just added an interview Glen did with Fretboard Journal in Spring 2010. 13 pages of PDFs including some wonderful photos. Thanks to Fleur for passing it along!

– A VEVO channel for The Frames popped up in February on YouTube, so perhaps head over there and subscribe. Currently it’s only featuring the Australian gig from 2007 that is also available on Hulu and here on OITS.

– We have a complete set of videos (minus unreleased songs) for Glen’s 2011 summer gig in Reykavic Iceland.

– A whole bunch of new videos from the Frames’ 2010 anniversary show in DC at the 9:30 Club recently appeared on YT, so we’ve added those.

– A page for this past Christmas Eve busk that seemed to happen all over Dublin!

– An interview Glen did with the Irish Times in December. (2 jpegs: one & two)

– Glen sings on some songs on Mark Geary’s latest album songs about love, songs about leaving.

– Graham has been playing live with Bronagh Gallagher and will be featured on her upcoming album this spring. Hear the single “Fool” here at bronaghgallagher.com.

– AND Graham recently chatted with Brian Downey, drummer of Thin Lizzy, for Zildjian.

– Glen & Colm are featured on Michael Brunnock’s new album The Orchard due out this Spring. You can watch the video for the title track here.

– Colm is one of the many players on Peter Courtney’s charity single White Roses. Others include Mundy, Cathy Davey, Mick and Johnny Cronin, The Aftermath, Julie Feeney, Vyvienne Long, Duncan Patterson and Una Monaghan. White Roses is a tribute to Peter’s mother who passed last year. All proceeds go to the Irish Hospice Foundation and the Regional Hospices nationwide. You can get the single for 99 cents at iTunes here.

We think that’s about it, or at least what we’ve made note of. If any of the above is inaccurate please let us know. Obviously, more to come soon! Have a great weekend….

Glen Talks To Hot Press

February 25, 2012

Glen chatted with Hot Press about his upcoming solo record, scheduled for a June release on Anti-/Epitaph.

Collecting used mobile phones for charity

February 4, 2012

Many of you are aware of the Irish Fragile X Society because of The Frames’ Mic Christopher gig from back in November, as well as the auction we hosted to raise money for the organization. Right now, families of kids with Fragile X and Autism in Ireland are collecting old mobile phones in exchange for iPads through an initiative by Irish Autism Action. Each family needs 165 phones to get an iPad! iPads are very useful in helping kids with these disorders to learn and engage in ways they otherwise are not able to. Here is a recent story in the NYT about it if you’re curious: http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/29/finding-good-apps-for-children-with-autism/

So, if you have any old phones lying around that you’ve been meaning to recycle, please consider sending them off to Ireland. They do not need to be in working condition or have chargers. Perhaps you can collect a few from your friends and family to even out the shipping cost a bit. You can send them to: The Frames, PO Box 67, Gorey, Co. Wexford, Republic of Ireland. Thank you!
