Weekly Update // 5 May

May 5, 2011

We have a lot of new additions to the site this week, but first we want to give an upcoming birthday shout out to the illustrious Joseph Doyle! Yet another Taurus in the Frames camp, no wonder they’re such a tough bunch. Have a rad day Joe!

We have a really exciting add to the site for you this week that we were giddy about having show up in our inbox. The whole gig from 21 November 2006 in Amsterdam at Melkweg. It was filmed for and aired on the now defunct fabchannel.com. One word: TURBIT. It’s a really fantastic gig with an interesting set list and we’re thankful to Lino for sharing it with us! FYI videos are still being added, but we’ll Tweet at ya when it’s all done.

We’re working on filling out the Television appearance section with some clips from the grand irishmusiccentral:
1995 – Fitzcarraldo + Angel At My Table on No Disco
March 2001 – interview w/ Glen on No Disco
29 March 2001 – interview w/ Glen and Dave Odlum, performance of Headlong
May 2001 – interview w/ Glen before Green Energy Fest
August 2001 – interview w/ Glen on Nationwide
3 January 2002 – interview w/ Glen on Ireland AM, performance of Mic Christopher’s Listen Girl
14 September 2004 – Happy on The View, RTE
15 September 2005 – interview w/ Glen on tv3 about Point Depot show in November

The rest…..
+ 2 new Glen solo gigs – 26 May in NYC & 27 June in Chicago / 2 new dates all the way in Nov. for The Commitments
+ This winter Glen chatted with Nicholas Hill at Radio Free Song Club and performed a few songs. Also linked at bottom of the Radio section. (Glen just tweeted this link this morning)
+ thanks to Turbit on the Melkweg footage, I had to go on a Turbit hunt and added 2 other videos from 2006 & 2007, both from the awesome Ivi.
+ video of God Bless Mom & Rent Day Blues at Witnness 2000
+ video of Plateau at Britnness 2001
+ video of A Caution To The Birds from 14 Jan. 2007 at Vicar Street
+ 4 new reviews for The Swell Season movie

Quick follow up to my mention of the marathon last week- Despite lots of rain at the start leaving us all with soggy shoes and socks and making the last 10K quite difficult, I finished on my feet just a little slower than I set out to be. It was a challenging, humbling and uplifting experience and it only took until the next day for me to say I think I could do it again sometime (I’m lookin’ at you Dublin). The best part is we raised almost $2700 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, woo! Thanks to all who wished me luck.

Have a great weekend everyone….J+S

Weekly Update // 28 April

April 28, 2011

Greetings! We have just a few new updates for you to chew on this weekend….

First, FYI, Glen scheduled his own gig on 17 June in Massachusetts, the first off-night of the Vedder tour. Tickets and details here. It was only announced a few days ago and it’s a small venue (an indie cinema) so best to be quick!

+ Glen performed at another Doveman organized show at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC with lots of other great musicians. Glen sang Lately by Stevie Wonder and everyone joined in for Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams.

+ Added 3 videos from an acoustic performance for 3Voor12 television in the Netherlands in August 2006. Sad Song, Falling Slowly & People Get Ready.

+ Created a page for The Swell Season documentary that premiered at the Tribeca Film Fest last Friday. We have the trailer, credits, previews, reviews and a link to a video of a Q+A with the directors.

+ posted yet another (very cool) gig poster

On a personal note, this weekend Shannon and I will be together in real life for the first time since the 20th gigs and since before we made this site! For the past 4 months I’ve been collecting donations for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and training to run a marathon in honor of Shannon’s daughter who has Type 1 diabetes. Shannon and her family will be out supporting me and it would be spectacular if any of you reading this could send out some good energy vibes to me Sunday morning (EST) if you remember!

To keep this relevant, I’ll share some of my favorite Frames songs for on the run, in particular order:

+ Fighting On The Stairs- it’s all about the beat
+ Fitzcarraldo- because if Fitz and his crew can pull a ship over a mountain, I certainly can run up that measly hill (Kate Bush also good for this)
+ Heyday- a true motivator…in running terms, the Frames take up Mic’s baton
+ Stars Are Underground- always good for a kick in the pants (and some air bass and drumming)
+ Keepsake- has a way of making your run seem more cinematic in a just burned my house down now i’m running away way
+ Revelate- it goes without saying, various versions of this are sprinkled through my ipod to be called upon when needed
+ 7 Day Mile- cause it’s just a matter of tiiiime, you’ve been running so fast….
+ Santa Maria- a slow burner, but epic during a windy downpour or snowfall
+ Monument- just like with Stars, go go go!
+ Crazy Horses– the Osmonds get you going, 26 April 2007 at 9:30 Club
+ Debaser– the Witnness 2003 version of this Pixies song is killer

Ok I’ll stop there, but if any wants to talk running or running+music, drop me and email or comment!
We’ll see you next time in the month of May (…month of May).

Weekly Update // April 21

April 21, 2011

First of all, Happy Birthday to both Glen and Claire! We hope it’s been stellar so far. We also just noticed it’s OITS’ 4th month birthday today. So, cake all around!

Lately we’ve been spending the free time we have to work on the site by doing some behind the scenes clean up, so updates will be a little light until we get through all of the formatting issues (that only we notice, probably, ha!) we want to tidy up. Here’s what we have for you this week:

+ a new date for Glen – 17 August at the Hollywood Bowl in LA for a jazz oriented Joni Mitchell tribute concert. (We love that he is listed between Herbie Hancock & Chaka Khan).

+ added a page for The Swell Season at Coachella with setlist, comments and videos

+ added the rest of the audio for the Andrews Lane Theatre gig from 1995 that we mentioned last week

+ added audio for all of the songs and more photos to Austin City Limits Festival from 2005. Great gig story and awesome Glen & Joe interview with Paste Magazine afterward.

+ Lots of new stuff for Colm in the Other Projects section

+ Giving It All Away mp3 from an FM Broadcast of a gig at Whelan’s in 1994

+ 3 new gig posters for 2002 & 2003

If anyone is going to see any of the screenings of The Swell Season documentary, which opens at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC tomorrow, we’d love to hear what you think. Just drop us a line!

Thanks and Happy Easter to those of you that celebrate it, and for those of you that don’t, happy day after Easter candy sales!

Weekly Update / 14 April

April 14, 2011

Hi everyone!

This week we welcomed our 100th friend on Facebook, so that was pretty cool! We’ll sometimes make updates there or tweets over on Twitter randomly during the week, so join us at either or both. Whatever works for you.

+ Speaking of Tweets and status updates, last Friday we alerted everyone to a new update to the site- full video of The Frames’ first gig (or first that we have on record here) at The Project Arts Center in Dublin in 1991. It was shot by Donal Scannell, David & Niamh (anyone have last names?). It’s a must see!

+ We also added full video for a performance at the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands from 2006. The whole thing is choice, but if you’re short on time, be sure to watch Dance the Devil.

+ There are 7 new beautiful gig posters in the Gig Posters section.

+ Various set lists from the 2000’s

+ Put up a few photos on the FTB 30 March gig page

+ I (Jenn) got a special treat this week when a friend sent along two live versions of Giving It All Away, one of my absolute favorites that I have never heard live. I put them on each gig page to share, both 1995- Nancy Spains in Cork & Andrews Theatre in Dublin.

+ We fancied up the Coachella 2007 gig page with more of Zoran’s photos. Even with just visuals you can tell that was an amazing (and insanely hot) show. At least The Swell Season is playing at night this Saturday!

+ There are 4 new pieces in the Press section from 1995, 1999 & 2002 x 2.

Finally, If you haven’t noticed the +Content page under Past Gigs before, this is a place where we list past dates that have things on the page other than simply a set list (videos, clippings, photos, etc…). This way you can go there to more easily click through to find things than going through all of the Year pages. This week we made it even easier for you to find what you might be interested in by noting on +Content what is actually on the page before you click the link. Each time we add something to a past gig page, we will add a link to it on +Content as well. Note, +Content does not include any of the 20th Anniversary gigs from 2010, but there’s tons of stuff there, just go to that section.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Weekly Update // 7 April

April 7, 2011

Do you have some free time this weekend? We’re here to help fill it up with some ridiculously awesome things we’ve added to the site this week….

In addition to all of the lovely updates below we are so excited to be able to bring you these 4 amazing sets of videos!
+ a full 1993 crowd shot performance at Trinity College. Total classic and must see. Goggles!
+ all 5 songs performed at Parkpop in the NL in 2007
+ the (soon to be, we are still uploading) full Pinkpop Festival gig from 2005 in NL
+ a 4 song + interview thing with Glen in an elevator (glen-in-an-ele-va-tor!…sorry) in Amsterdam from 2006

+ We’ve updated the photos on the homepage so go have a look if you rarely go there! As usual, we moved the former photos to the Photography section. We were sad to move them, but now we are celebrating Coachella (Swell Season will be there next week) this month with a few Zoran Orlic shots from 4 years ago. We also snuck in a Zoran shot from 2005 at the ACL Fest & a fave of ours of the lads at Town Hall in NYC by Patrick Glennon.

+ At the 2001 For The Birds page we’ve posted a little piece of history with Glen talking about For The Birds track by track for RTE radio. It’s totally worth 15 minutes of your time! Also added links to RTE’s review of FTB at the time.

+ A bunch of new stuff on the 30 March FTB gig page– Emmet O’Brien’s pre-show speech (you can read and listen here), photos, 10 more videos and a great blog post from Jen about her experience at the gig with her guide dog O.J! (posted at Your Stories)

+We made a gig page for Glen’s appearance at the Barretstown Foundation fundraiser including full video that ran during the online stream – 4 songs and an interview

+ speaking of Coachella 2007 – we added a couple of cool shots from that same show (more to come soon)

+a video of What Happens to the Belfast gig from the 20th Tour

+ a super cool shot of Glen at Shepherds Bush in London from the 20th as well

+ a performance of Fake from 2002 on Dutch television in the TV section

+ Hot Press review of The Commitments at the O2

+ Lots more videos for each Commitments gig

+ a beautiful video of See-Line woman from the Glen & Liam gig at Whelan’s in March shot by Steve Mogerley

That’s it for now. Is that quite enough? We want to reiterate, if you see something on the site that you recorded and don’t want posted here, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will remove it. Thanks to everyone who’s helped so far in the last 3 short months! Until next time, remember, “Freeebiiiird!” = still not funny.
