Graham & Joe at Levon Tribute

April 8, 2013

LevonGraham & Joe will be a part of the 19th April Levon Helm Tribute at the Sugar Club in Dublin. Proceeds go to the Irish Cancer Society. For more info & tickets check out the Sugar Club website and the Tribute page on Facebook! From Graham’s Facebook:
April 19th marks the first anniversary of the death of Levon Helm. The year passed so quickly. He’s honestly a man who never leaves my mind, and he is certainly with me everytime I play. It’s been so great playing ‘Don’t Do It’ nearly every night on tour with Glen. We’ve been getting booties shaking just as Levon would like it!!
So, it’s fantasic that there’s a tribute gig for Levon being held in the Sugar Club, Dublin on Friday April 19th. Myself and Joe Doyle have just been invited to play alongside other bands. We said ‘Yes’ straight away of course!
Then we asked the fantastic House of Horns along!!… Michael Buckley, Ronan Dooney and Paul Frost…They said yes! Cormac Curran from Villagers is gona plays keys!! And the groove meister Conor Brady will be on guitar. There’s too many The Band/Levon songs to choose from. But come along, support the Irish Cancer Society and the memory of Levon Helm to find out!!

Glen chats with Sydney Opera House

March 28, 2013

glen_sohNice little piece by Sydney Opera House here.

Captivating Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard graced the Concert Hall in an intimate, career-spanning evening backed by long-term collaborators and folk-rock luminaries The Frames.

Go behind the scenes with Glen as we chat to him about his musical origins, inspirations, and about what music means to him.

Rob Recap!

March 27, 2013

rob_ivi_sf2012In early 2012, Rob continued to tour with Marketa Irglova followed by a trip to Iceland in the spring to work on her second album. That summer, he joined Glen & the rest of The Frames to accompany him on tour to support Rhythm and Repose.

While continuing to tour with Glen & the lads into the fall/winter, Rob began working on mixes for The Frames – In The Deep Shade, a documentary about The Frames by Conor Masterson.

In December Rob worked again with The Dudley Corporation on their LP Everyone Does Everything Wrong which will be released on May 11th. Listen to the first single, ‘Grey Lights’, here. He had previously recorded & mixed songs for their third album, Year of the Husband, in 2008.

In January 2013 Rob spent time in Prague as the mix engineer recording for a Czech band, Tichonov, at Faust Studios. He is presently on tour with Glen and the lads and hopes to spend some of this year working on his on sophomore record.

Billy talks Colm again

March 20, 2013

Love this quote from Billy Bragg about Colm’s The Hare’s Corner from a different interview than the one previously mentioned. Hope these guys get together…

I think everyone should own The Hare’s Corner by Colm Mac Con Iomaire. It’s an album of instrumental tunes by a contemporary fiddle player from Ireland. Beautiful and relaxing, like a modern Astral Weeks.

You can read the whole interview with Billy at Fairshare Music blog.
