Colm Mac Con Iomaire

Colm Q&A

May 15, 2014

This week Colm answered some questions for PopLives at the Irish Times.

Colm Mac Con Iommaire is a musician, soundtrack scorer and member of The Frames and The Swell Season.

What are you reading?
Music and Madness – Ivor Browne.

Last film you saw and your verdict?
I just watched Traffic by Steven Soderbergh again the other night. It’s a great movie. It reminded me of how few good films we get to see these days.

Last gig/concert you went to and your verdict?
I went to see Dave Mc Savage in the Wexford Arts Centre a few weeks ago. It was great, in a deeply uncomfortable sort of way.

Recent News Round-Up

April 30, 2014

Hey folks – A few bits for you…..

This past month, Glen joined lots of other Irish artists at the Royal Albert Hall for Ceiliúradh (Celebration) during Irish President Michael D. Higgins’ state visit to London. Myles O’Reilly (Arbutus Yarns) made a 20 minute film about the behind the scenes of this performance.

In a few days Glen’s heading to Brazil to open 5 shows for Eddie Vedder. All of the shows are sold out at this point. After that, look ahead to a handful of gigs with the band in the USA including Chicago, Minneapolis, Oakland & Los Angeles.

Colm has provided the music to this wonderful looking play full of paper puppets (no dialogue, just music)! It’s called Bláth – The Flower & will be running for a few days May 14-16 in Limerick. You can get more information & tickets here. Just this past Monday, Colm and his family visited Irish Guide Dogs HQ to have a chat with Today FM’s Ray D’Arcy about their son Darach’s assistance dog Cassie. You can listen back to the chat here, at around 40 minutes.

Graham, along with fellow GH bandmates Michael Buckley & Justin Carroll, as well as Colm Quearney & Keith Duffy (and others as they’re available) are getting more serious with their outfit Square Pegs and plan on releasing a record sometime soon! If you’re a fan of Chicago & New Orleans Blues & 50s R&B, check them out. Facebook & Twitter. Here are some recent gig photos by Dave Keegan.

Rob has a little new news about spending time in his studio, posted up at his website here.

Oh yes, The Frames did all play a show together at Whelan’s just last week, in celebration of Glen (& Claire’s!) birthdays. Many hours of songs including Fitzcarraldo, Heyday, Revelate, Stars are Underground, Your Face, Headlong, Finally…. 😀

Emer's Dream

Here’s a solo version of ‘Emer’s Dream’ I did a few weeks ago at home..The moment was recorded for posterity by Karl Odlum on his fancy camera.. Emer’s Dream was written around the time of the passing of an old friend Emer Nolan in 2008.

Colm on Imeall (part 1)

In 2008 TG4's programme Imeall aired an episode featuring an interview with Colm about The Hare's Corner. It is available in 2 parts on youtube.
