7 October 2012 // San Francisco, CA // Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival

glen_HSB2012_dissipatedfog4Glen and the band play at 2:20 pm on The Rooster Stage

Setlist: Love Don’t Leave Me Waiting – Respect (Aretha Franklin), Talking with the Wolves*, Low Rising, The Auld Triangle Feedback Hum, When Your Mind’s Made Up, Bird of Sorrow, Astral Weeks** (Van Morrison) – Smile** (Pearl Jam), Fitzcarraldo, Don’t Do It*** (Marvin Gaye/The Band)

*Simon on shaker
**Glen solo
***Simon on guitar

Notes: The sun is shining in San Francisco and people flock en masse to the Rooster Stage just before the set starts. ‘Low Rising’ is introduced as a song about optimism, and played “for the Democrats. We can say that ’cause we’re Irish.” In response to a low hum of feedback, Glen sings a hilarious snippet of ‘The Auld Triangle’ to match its key, far below where it usually falls. Most of the previously-laid-back crowd is standing and Glen demands to see some hips moving for ‘Don’t Do It’.

[Thanks to Courtney for the setlist and notes.]

Band: Glen Hansard, Colm Mac Con Iomaire (violin), Joe Doyle (bass), Rob Bochnik (guitar), Graham Hopkins (drums), Justin Carroll (keys)

Brass: Steven Bernstein, Erik Lawrence, Curtis Fowlkes

Strings: Andra Makulans, Teddy Rankin Parker
