Encore: Say it to Me Now*,  Don’t Do It (Marvin Gaye/The Band)**, The Weight (The Band)**

Notes: During Fitzcarraldo, Glen motioned something to Simon off stage. Simon didn’t understand and came out on stage to see what he needed. Glen said something to him, and Simon came back on stage with a pen and a piece of paper. During the violin solo, Glen knelt on the stage and jotted something down and rolled it up and put it in his pocket and continued playing. Some sort of inspiration hit.. Glen noted that during soundcheck when they were messing around with some songs, one of the sound guys suggested they play ‘Sign o’ the Times’. Glen assumed every band that plays at First Avenue covers Prince. When the soundman said that no one had ever covered that particular song, they decided to learn it and play it. Afterwards Glen said, “We’re sorry, Prince! We had to try it!… Now we’ll get back to some very white European music.” The two Band covers at the end were due to this being the last show with the all of the Levon Helm band members playing together.

[Thanks to Jake for the setlist and notes.]
